Virginia (Pizzoferrato) Valente, 93, passed away September 23, 2022, at home with her loving family by her side.

Virginia was born in Hartford on September 21, 1929 to the late Dante and Ida Pizzoferrato. Prior to retirement, Virginia was a Teacher at Fox Daycare for the City of Hartford, and an oil colorist for numerous photography studios in and around Hartford. Friends would sit at the table and watch in awe as she transformed sepia tone photographs into beautiful oil color pictures. Her reputation had photographers all over the state using her skills to repair and refresh portraits. As a gifted artist, she also had a passion for painting with oil and watercolors. She sold a few paintings but preferred to share her art with her family and friends to hang proudly in their homes. She was a smart and passionate woman who always listened to everyone and shared sound advice to all. She had a love for politics and was a part of the South End Women's Democratic Club, often using her home as a headquarters during numerous elections.

Virginia’s love for her family was unconditional. She was the most caring and compassionate woman, a mother, friend and “Nana” to all who knew her. Her door was always open, and food was plentiful. Every Holiday was special, but the feast of the seven fishes on Christmas Eve will continue to be the family favorite tradition because of her.

She will always remain in the hearts of her loving children, Diane York of Hartford, Denise Conroy and her husband Steven of Naples, FL., Frank Valente Jr and his wife Maura of Wethersfield and Daniel Valente and his wife Karen of Rocky Hill. She also leaves her grandchildren, Christopher and Bethany York, Nicole, Frank III, Anthony, Daniel and Matthew Valente, great-grandchildren, Antony and Francesca York, Dianymarie Nieves and Ramiro Echevarria and great-great-grandchildren, Owen and Liam York and Gabriella Ebert. Virginia shared a unique bond and mirror image with her identical twin and best friend, Barbara Grimaldi. She will be missed by many including her Aunt Anna Pizzoferrato, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A special thanks to Masonic Care Hospice and their staff who provided exceptional support to our mother and family during this difficult time.

Friends may call on Friday September 30, 2022, from 9:30 to 11:30am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Virginia’s life will follow at 12:00 noon in Sacred Heart Church of Christ the King Parish, 55 Hartford Road, Wethersfield. Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield. To extend condolences, visit Farleysullivan.com.
