Obituary for Sherwood Paul Cordner

Sherwood P. Cordner, Jr., "Paul", 80, of East Hartford, CT, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at
Hartford Hospital. Paul was born August 7, 1942, in Stafford Springs, CT to the late Sherwood Paul
Cordner and Barbara (Elser) Cordner. Paul played varsity baseball and basketball at Somers High School.
He proudly served in the Army National Guard and retired from United Technologies after working for 40 years in the Technology department and later worked part time at the Home Depot.

Paul was a kind and generous person who appreciated sports and being active. He liked being outdoors and working on projects in the yard. He also enjoyed and was successful in racing snowmobiles. Paul would also go on ski trips and play golf with his nephews. As time went on, he watched his grandnephews play hockey and baseball. Paul was the biggest hockey fan for his grandnephews Brett and Keane Smith and was a fixture at the rink where he was known by all as “Uncle Paul.” He also enjoyed spending time with his family through the years at Lake Sunapee, NH. Despite his recent health challenges, he tried to keep a positive outlook.

Paul is survived by his brother David Cordner and his wife Catherine of Coventry, CT; his nephews James Smith and his wife Michele of Glastonbury, CT; Jeffrey Smith and his wife Jackie of Ft. Myers, FL; Edward Smith of Manchester, CT; Albert Cordner of South Hadley, MA; Matthew Cordner of Coventry, CT; Douglas Bliss of Bradenton, Florida; Steven Bliss and his wife Heather of Glendora, CA; and his niece Jennifer Burdette and her husband Paul, of Andover, CT; along with many loved grandnephews and grandnieces. He was predeceased by his older sister Thai Bliss and her husband Herbert of Sarasota, FL, along with his younger sister Joyce Lynds and her husband Lahmer of Goshen, CT.

Paul’s services will be private and at the discretion of the family. Donations in Paul’s memory may be made to St. Jude's hospital stjude.org or a charity of your choice.
