Salvatore La Pira, 94, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Maria (Mangiafico) La Pira, died Monday March 22, 2021. Born in Canicattini, Bagni, province of Siracusa, Italy, he was the son of the late Vincenzo La Pira and Sebastiana Uccello. He was a machinist, retiring after many years of service from Fafnir Bearing Co. In his retirement he enjoyed his family, gardening and his vehicles.
Salvatore is survived by his five children and spouses, Sebastiana and Charlie Szilagyi of Wethersfield, Vincenzo and Sandra La Pira of Wethersfield, Giuseppe and Patricia La Pira of Hartford, Maurizio and Michele La Pira of Plainville and Paola and Dwight Debow of Plainville; grandchildren, David, Vincent and his fiancé Caitlin, Steven and his wife Kala, Kaitlyn, Meaghan, Myranda, Ashley, Taylor, Maria, Salvatore, Giuseppe and Nicolas and great-grandchildren, Audrey, Bentley, Addison and Rowan. He will also be greatly missed by his siblings, Giuseppe, Paolo, Lina and her husband Salvatore and Concetta of Sicily, Italy, his in-laws, Vincenzo and Emma Mangiafico of Hartford, Salvatore Mangiafico of Plainville, Corrado and Gloria Mangiafico of Middletown, Sebastiano Mangiafico of Florida and Paolo and Tina Mangiafico of Sicily, Italy and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters and a brother and his grandson Gage La Pira.
Friends may call on Monday March 29, 2021 from 9:30 to 10:30am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Salvatore’s life will be at 11:00 am in Corpus Christi Church of Christ the King Parish, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield.
