Obituary for Salvatore J. "Ted" Camilleri

Salvatore J (Ted) Camilleri, 98, of Rocky Hill. Devoted husband of 63 years to the late Josephine (Carpinteri) Camilleri, passed away October 26, 2022, in Chester.
Ted was born on May 1, 1924, in Floridia, Sicily, Italy, son of the late Concetto and Guisippina (Sequenzia) Camilleri. Ted had never met his father until he immigrated through Ellis Island to the United States with his mother at the age of seven. Ted and his mother joined his father, who had come earlier to America to build a better life. Ted was a graduate of Bulkeley High School where he was a three-sport athlete standout. Ted’s studies and sports at Trinity College were interrupted when he was drafted in 1943 and joined the US Army Air Forces, the predecessor of the Air Force. He served as a Sergeant Crew Chief Airplane Tech during WW2, responsible for maintenance and repairs on B17s and B29s. After his discharge, Ted went on to achieve his degree from Trinity College. Ted worked for Selective Service for 29 years. He was offered a position in Washington, DC, but declined to stay with his family in Hartford. Ted then taught English to immigrants for years before taking a position with the City of Hartford Redevelopment Commission.

Ted was a devoted and loving family man who along with his wife had found their soul mates. They were the loves of each other's lives and inseparable. My father chose to spend the majority of his free time with his son, doing little for himself outside of his family. Ted was a proud member of the RedCoats, South Catholic High School father’s club. He was also a member of St. Luke’s Church in Hartford.

Ted leaves his son Scott, wife Lisa, and four grandsons: Adam Camilleri of MA, Matthew Camilleri and Brett Camilleri both of CO, and Jason Camilleri of Wyoming. Ted also leaves his best friend Bill Ryan of Chester. They had a mutually caring, protective, and compassionate relationship until the end. I would like to extend many thanks to Bill for being a ray of sunshine in my dad’s final years. You will remain in our hearts along with him.

All services will be private. Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.
