Obituary for Robert V. Claffey, Sr.

Robert V. Claffey, Sr. 92, husband of the late Catherine (Russell) Claffey, passed away Thursday December 8, 2022, in Glastonbury Healthcare. He was born in Hartford, son of the late George and Margaret (Dooley) Claffey. After high school, Bob joined the US Army, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Prior to his retirement, he was a Firefighter for the City of Hartford, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. Bob was very active in the Hartford Elks, Lodge 19, serving as Exalted Ruler. He was also a member of the Hartford Firemen’s Benevolent Society and the Hartford Firefighter Protective Association, as well as the Glastonbury VFW and the American Legion Post 56, Glastonbury.
He will be greatly missed by his children, Mary C. Priest of MD., Robert V. Claffey, Jr and his wife Lori of East Hartford, Richard R. Claffey of Newington, Dennis G. Claffey and his wife Patricia of East Windsor, Ann Bradley and her husband Christopher of East Hartford, Kathleen Dziedzic and her husband Robert of AR., and his son-in-law Brian Rawding. He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Melissa, Louie, Sara, Sean, Maelan, Vinnie, Belle and Seamus, his great-granddaughter Arieana, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Bob was predeceased by his daughter Ellen C. Rawding, his son-in-law Llewellyn Priest, Jr., and his brother Francis J. Claffey, his sisters, Rosalie Mulcahy, Pauline McMahon and Catherine Eckert.
Friends may call on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Bob’s life will be held on Wednesday December 14, 2022, at 10:00AM in St. Christopher Church of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford.
