Obituary for Rita Orciso

Rita (DiNardo) Orciso, 84, beloved wife to the late Alessandro Orciso, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, May 5, 2023. Rita was born in Santa Maria Capua Vetere, Caserta, Italy on July 11, 1938 to the late Luigi and Maddalena (Delle Femmine) DiNardo.

Rita was one of the most caring, compassionate and benevolent people you could ever meet. Professionally, Rita was a CNA for over 40 years at the Greenery of Cheshire. You could often find her going out of her way to provide special care for her patients, cooking food for them and giving them gifts to brighten their day. A talented cook and baker, Rita’s guests enjoyed artisan bread and farm to table dining experiences before these terms ever became popular. Any guest who stopped by had a seat at the table, any neighbor or friend who was ill was delivered a homemade treat, and at the holidays, her Christmas cookies, Easter breads and pies were shared with all those she loved. Rita made sure her guests always left with a doggy bag. The highlight of her week was Sunday dinner at her home spent surrounded by her children and grandchildren. As well as being an amazing cook, Rita was an extremely talented gardener, growing many expansive flower and vegetable gardens with her green thumb. Above all, Rita was most devoted to her family, and especially loved her daughters and all her grandchildren.

Rita married her childhood sweetheart, Alessandro, and left her family behind in Italy to start a new life with him in the United States. She worked tirelessly to give her three daughters a great education and afford them every opportunity for success. She never hesitated to drop everything to babysit her grandchildren whom she adored with all her heart and knew her affectionately as “Noni”.

Rita is survived by her three daughters and their husbands Maria and Dan Olsen, Maddalena and David Monti and Josephine Alexandria and David Cellucci; her grandchildren, Christopher, Sara, Emily, David, Joseph, Lian, Charlotte and Evan; her sisters, Cristina Bernachi, Maria Delle Femmine and Rosalia Quaranto, her in-laws Alex and Rita DiCaprio and her extended family in the United States and Italy. Rita will also be missed by her close friends, Eric and Phyllis Soderberg and their daughter Gabriela. Rita is predeceased by her brother Franco DiNardo.

Her family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the team of caregivers at Jefferson House for the loving care that they provided in her final months as she fought a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
