Obituary for Rita Lurate (Fiondella)

Rita (Fiondella) Lurate, of Newington, passed away June 30, 2023 in the Hospital of Central Connecticut. She was born on October 24, 1928 in the Momauguin Section of East Haven. She was the daughter of Alice Lally and Jean Fiondella. Rita had many fond memories of growing up in Momauguin. She moved to Hartford in 1949 when she married Raymond Lurate, who passed away in 2007. Rita was active in St. Lawrence O’Toole Parish where she was a Eucharistic Minister and was also a Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis Hospital. She worked in the nursing library at Hartford Hospital until her retirement. Rita enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Old Saybrook.
Rita was predeceased by her husband Raymond, her daughter Ann Lurate Lupo, grandson Daniel Ferrara, sister Anita Carrieri and brother Jay Fiondella. She leaves her family, Kathleen and Sal Ferrara, John and Diane Lurate, Margaret Lurate and David Judge, James and Beth Lurate, Mary Ellen Lurate, William and Yolanda Lurate and Kerry Lurate. She also leaves her 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and son-in-law Armand Lupo. She lived a full life and was a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother (Gigi) She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Friends may call on Wednesday July 5, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life will be held on Thursday July 6, 2023 at 10:00 in Church of the Incarnation of Christ the King Parish, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Ave Hartford. The family requests no flowers, however memorial donations in Rita’s name may be made to the Ann Lurate Lupo Scholarship, Dept. of Allied Health Sciences, 358 Mansfield Rd.
