Richard W. Sampson, 69, of Wethersfield, loving husband and father, peacefully passed on, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, to be reunited with the love of his life, his wife, late Cynthia L. He was a member of the Hartford Firefighters Protective Association, the Hartford Firemen’s Benevolent Society, and the Hartford Police and Fire Association. Dear Sara and Kate, If you’re lucky, sometime in your life, you meet and connect with people that truly shine...The smile on your dad’s face said it all! My husband, Ed also from Hartford, Htfd High’67.,,Air Force 67-71 then Hartford Fire Dept 26 years...gave them plenty of memories...We live up the street, Ed would walk to your house to see Rich to talk & laugh..,(not for a long time due to Ed’s health)...but always fun! So many times I’d see dad at Bliss(dinner time usually)..a hug & a smile, then “want a ride home”?!? Haha... We only met your mom at a HFD dance but knew she was lovely & sweet..,You girls are their legacy, they’ll remain in your💖hearts always...Please know that they are smiling in Heaven as you have each other in this life and the next 🦋. My sincerest condolences to the entire Sampson
family. Richard was a student of mine at BHS and, while he was a handful, I always enjoyed
his quick wit and high spirits.
We've become friends through all these years.
I have so admired the grace and grit he always showed as he faced more than his share of difficult challenges.
I had recent chance encounter with him at CVS.
He wore a mask and his physical fragility was
obvious. Nonetheless it was the same old Richard, cheerful and upbeat and totally devoid of self pity.
May your loss be softened by the memory of that beautiful grin. Gone too soon.
