Richard W. Dounouk, 87, of South Windsor, beloved husband of the late Dawn M. (Cyr) Dounouk, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, January 10, 2021. Richard was born on November 28, 1933 in Hartford, CT. He was one of seven children of the late Peter and Edna (Peck) Dounouk. Richard, who was known as “Big D”, resided in the Hartford area most of his life. He attended Wethersfield High School and went on to serve our country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1956. Richard was a proud member of the Teamsters Union and became the Proprietor of the “Rusty Nail” Restaurant and Bar in Ashford, CT, which he and his wife loved for many years. In his spare time, he was a proud member of The Shriners, an avid reader of U.S. and World History and loved collecting coins.
Richard will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends, including Jeffrey, Brian and Steven Dounouk, Scott McDougal and his wife Milly, Terri Deaton and her husband Robert and Jodi Godere and her husband Robert, a brother and sister-in-law, David and Nancy Dounouk, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by three brothers, Peter, Alan and Robert; and two sisters Claire Worley and Joan McIntyre.
Richard’s family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt gratitude to his dear friend Mary Lou Raby of Wethersfield. They spent thirteen wonderful years together. Richard and Mary Lou were able to enjoy each other’s company, share great conversation, they enjoyed traveling, road trips to the UConn Dairy Barn for ice cream, and precious moments with Bubbie, Mary Lou’s beloved Shih Tzu.
Due to COVID19, the family will be holding a private service at a later date. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield has been entrusted with the arrangements.
