Regina Slattery Raffa, 99, finally got away from this world peacefully on Wednesday, December, Pearl Harbor Day, 2011. Born in Hartford, December 20, 1911, a nurse by profession, she had the good sense to retire in 1941, and thus spent 70 years in retirement. She graduated from Mount St. Joseph’s Academy at 16. She was a crossword puzzle maven. Regina is survived by her beloved granddaughter, Laura R. Raffa, and her checkered son, Dr. Joseph L. Raffa. Regina is also survived by many other good relatives and friends, among whom are Frank S. Raffa Esq., Greg Kelly, Mary Kelly, Frank J. Raffa, Pat Bernardi, David P. Thurz, and John Yonkunis. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Raffa M. D. and her sisters, Georgina Kelly and Isabel Cullen. Donations should be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook StreetI-91 Tech Center Rocky Hill, CT 06067. Family and friends will gather Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 10am-11am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave, Glastonbury, at which time a Christian Wake service will be held at 11am. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery, Hopewell Rd. South Glastonbury.
