Raymond J. Wiezalis, 75, of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2023 with family by his side. Ray was husband to the love of his life Diane (Mader) Wiezalis for 50 years. Ray was born in Hartford to the late Joseph and Jeanne (Kurlowicz) Wiezalis on June 28, 1947. He grew up in the South End of Hartford and graduated from South Catholic High School’s first class in 1965. After high school Ray went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Villanova University and went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from the University of Connecticut. Professionally, Ray spent 15 years with the State of Connecticut as a prosecutor, including being appointed the first full-time prosecutor for the Housing Court. He later went on to be a partner in McVane, Bellobuono, Kuzmak, Wiezalis, & Bibisi, LLP. He was always respected for his character, intellect, and professionalism. Ray was a member of many organizations and associations including the Connecticut Bar Association, Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, Hartford County Bar Association, Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association.
Ray loved golf and was a long-time member of the Wethersfield Country Club and coordinated many “Golfing Geezers” trips with his friends to Myrtle Beach as the “Grand Exalted Geezer.” He also enjoyed watching UCONN & Villanova basketball, the Red Sox, The History Channel, cooking shows, Jeopardy, the Greatest Catch and Gold Rush. He took pride in his cooking, specializing in sauerkraut, spaghetti sauce, chili, hot dog sauce and meatloaf. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, friends, golfing buddies and law colleagues.
Aside from his loving wife Diane, he will be missed by his son Matthew Wiezalis and his wife Emily of South Glastonbury and his daughter, Melissa Wiezalis of East Hartford. He was a beloved “Dziadzi” to his grandchildren, Bradley and Grace Wiezalis. In addition, he leaves behind a loving sister, Jeanne Ruffy and her husband Greg, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other extended family. He was thought fondly of by his nieces/nephews as a “truly amazing uncle with a huge heart.” Ray is predeceased by his brother John Wiezalis.
