Obituary for Patrick J Leyden

Patrick J. Leyden, 79, husband of Maureen (Sheehy) Leyden, passed away March 9, 2023, in Hartford Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born in Inagh County Clare, Ireland, son of the late Martin and Susan (Leahy) Leyden. Pat came to the United States in 1970 at age 26 where he met his loving wife of nearly 50 years and settled in Rocky Hill. He began working in the Construction trade, retiring as a Foreman for Paganelli Construction. He was a member of the CT Laborer’s Union and a lifetime member of the Irish American Home Society. In 2016, he proudly became a United States citizen. Pat enjoyed sports of all kinds, and he played Hurling while growing up in Ireland. However, he especially loved golf and was a member of The BogTrotters Golf Club. Pat always had a big smile on his face and was happy to see family and friends come through the front door. Above all else he cherished his time with his children, grandchildren, and wife.
He is survived by his wife Maureen, children Kathleen Valachovic and her husband Matthew of West Hartford, Christine LaBelle and her husband John of West Hartford and Brian Leyden and his wife Gina of Rocky Hill and his grandchildren Molly, Sara, Nolan, Charlotte, and Emily. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Byrne of Manchester, CT, Nora Flynn and her husband Liam of Ireland, his sister in laws Rita Leyden and Lulu Leyden both of Ireland, sister in laws Kathleen O’Shea, Bridget Sheehy and partner Lenny LaPenta, brother in law Patrick and wife Josie Sheehy of England as well as numerous nieces and nephews throughout the United States and abroad, and many dear friends. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers, Martin, Tom, and Johnny Leyden.
Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:30 am on Monday March 20, 2023, at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 noon in St. James Church of St. Josephine Bahkita Parish, 767 Elm St. Rocky Hill.
