Obituary for Patrick Keenan

Patrick J. Keenan, 90, beloved husband of Mary (Daly) Keenan, of East Hartford, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a loving brother and a true friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was born in County Galway, Ireland, son of the late Thomas and Bridget (Scott) Keenan on February 25, 1928. Pat came to the United States in 1949. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, rising to rank of Sergeant. He joined the Hartford Fire Department in 1954 and retired in 1980 as a Lieutenant. He was also the Director of the Physical Plant for Saint Joseph College, West Hartford, retiring in 1994. Pat was a lifetime member of the Irish American Home Society, was the 2008 Grand Marshal of the Hartford Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, played hurling in Hartford Gaelic Athletic Association, and was a member of the Hartford Firefighter Emerald Society. He was a communicant of Saint Rose Church of East Hartford. Pat was a dedicated fan of the Boston Red Sox and UConn Women’s Basketball. He loved to garden, and was an expert at repairs of his home and his children's homes. He loved to spend time with family and friends at his summer cottage at Point O’ Woods Beach.
Besides his wife, Pat leaves his loving children, Thomas Keenan and his wife Tricia of Mclean VA., Brendan Keenan and his wife Sharon of Columbia, Patrick Keenan, Jr. and his husband John Delgadillo of Vernon, Mary Keenan and her husband Doug Klotzer of Manchester, and Eileen Schweighoffer and her husband Greg of Marlborough. He also will be remembered fondly by his grandchildren Cavan, Brigid, Brendan, Jr., Sarah, Cecelia, Hunter, and Tim. Pat also leaves his sisters, Lil Lamb of Lancashire, England and Eileen McLoughlin of Galway, Ireland, his in-laws, Eileen and Michael Griffin and Christine Daly, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in the United States, Ireland and England. Pat was predeceased by his brother, Christopher, and his sisters, Mary, Bridget, and Mona.
Friends may call on Sunday, February 24, 2019 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Pat’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 25, 2019 in Saint Rose Church of the North American Martyrs Parish, 33 Church Street, East Hartford. All attendees are asked to go directly to church. Burial with honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, 1318 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury.
