Obituary for Michael J. Gherard

In the early morning hours of March 7, 2024, the world was left darker as the kind and gentle
spirit of Michael Joseph Gherard, age 41, of Wethersfield, CT, passed away unexpectedly after a
brief illness at Hartford Hospital. The second of 3 sons to Gwynne Skehan and the late Joseph
Gherard was born on September 15, 1982. Michael had tremendous love for his community of
Wethersfield. He graduated from Wethersfield High School in 2001, where he was a member of
the football and wrestling teams. Michael remained in Wethersfield for his adult life, where he
was beloved by many for his genuine good nature, generosity, and kindness. Michael was a
tremendous provider for his family, working as a Sales Representative for Martignetti/Hartley
and Parker, a company he served faithfully for 18 years. Due to his gentlemanly demeanor,
Michael had a unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life, allowing him to
achieve success, for which his company routinely recognized him for his efforts.
Above all else, Michael loved his family fiercely. He treasured the opportunity to share his love
for athletics with his daughters, serving as the coach of their basketball and softball teams.
Michael led his family on countless adventures, to Cape Cod, Disney World, Washington DC, the
Bahamas, and Maine, determined to provide lasting memories for his family. In addition,
Michael was an avid sports fan, passionate about his beloved New York Giants and hometown
UConn Huskies, for whom he and his family cheered at Rentschler Field.
Leaving a community saddened in the wake of his passing, Michael will be missed by many. He
is survived by his loving wife, Geralyn; his daughters, Emily and Abby; his mother, Gwynne; his
brothers, Nick Gherard and his wife Christine of Glastonbury, Jay Gherard of Wethersfield; his
mother and father-in-law Geralyn and Richard Dias, brother-in-law Daniel Dias and his wife
Nicole, all of Marion (MA), and his nephews, Nicholas, Jack, Sean, Luke, and Jake, as well as
many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Margaret Skehan and Peter and Ruth Gherard and his long-time, loving companion, his black labrador, Brady.
Calling hours will be Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, at the Farley-Sullivan
Funeral Home at 34 Beaver Dr., in Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday,
March 15, 2024, at 10:00 am in the Church of the Incarnation of Christ the King Parish, located
at 544 Prospect St., in Wethersfield. All attendees are requested to go directly to the church.
Michael will be eternally laid to rest at Village Cemetery in Wethersfield amidst the town and
people he cherished most; his presence will forever remain, never to depart from the people and
community he loved so profoundly.
