Obituary for Maureen G. Mullane (Grimes)

Maureen "Mo" Grimes Mullane, 90, of Glastonbury, passed away December 8, 2021 after a full and robust life. She was born in Meriden on September 12, 1931, daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Sokel) Grimes. She attended Rocky Hill Public Schools before going on to graduate from Mount Saint Joseph's Academy, and St. Joseph College in Hartford. After graduating college, she taught elementary school in Rocky Hill for several years. She loved teaching and could recall most of her students' names even 60 years later. In 1960, she married Francis Mullane, and in 1963, they moved to Glastonbury to raise a family.
In 1976, Mo joined the program started by Bill W. and Dr. Bob and began working to save many lives, beginning with her own. She maintained and strengthened this way of life for over 45 years, cultivating deep and lasting friendships. A breast cancer survivor since the early 1980's, she was committed to living her life to its fullest. She was a formidable foe at the bridge table, a master gardener, an excellent skier, an enthusiastic traveler, a skilled hiker, a decent pianist, and she knitted beautiful sweaters for family members and friends.
Mo was predeceased by her four older brothers, Walter, Thomas, Robert, and Lawrence Grimes, and her ex-husband, Francis Mullane. She leaves her three children and their families; Tom and his wife Robyn (Rifkin) of Glastonbury, Anne and her partner Steve (Park) of Roanoke, Virginia, and Rob and his fiancee Halley (Moore) of Paso Robles, California. She also leaves three grandchildren, Jack, Kristy, and Clancy, as well as a granddaughter-in-law, Tabitha, a great grandson, Mathew, many nieces and nephews and their families, a host of life-long friends and countless, grateful “friends of Bill”.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Maureen’s life will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 10:00AM in Saint Patrick-Saint Anthony Church, 285 Church Street, Hartford. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Glastonbury has care of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in Mo's name.
