Obituary for Mary Anne Skelly (McCarthy)

Mary Anne (McCarthy) Skelly, 87, beloved wife of the late Joseph E. Skelly passed away on December 7, 2019 surrounded by her 7 loving children and their families. Hers was a life well lived, she was a woman most loved and was the center and soul of our family. She was born in Hartford on May 24, 1932 to the late William and Alice (Cote) McCarthy. She is survived by her children and their spouses Joseph Skelly Jr, (Bitsy), Sharon Carducci (Mike) with whom she made her home, Stephen Skelly (Anita), Patrick Skelly (Charlene), Denise Harries (Tim), Sue Kaswan (Ian) and MaryJo Dunn (Shane), her grandchildren, Kara (John) Capuano, Kristen (John) Seale, Brenna Skelly (fiancé Ben), Megan, Michael (Kristen) and Mark Carducci, Shannon and Maggie Skelly, Patrick II, Ryan, Reece and Raegan Skelly, Brian and Kyle Harries, Erin and Sara Kaswan, and Riley and Kelsey Dunn and her great-grandchildren, Michael Carducci III, Robbie Seale and Chloe Capuano. She is also survived by her siblings, Fr. William McCarthy, Alice (Bob) Oliva and Kathie (Dick) Dunn and her brother in law Roger (Billie) Skelly. In addition to her husband Joe, she was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Luke Dunn and her brother James McCarthy. She also leaves countless nieces and nephews. In true Mary Anne fashion, she wrote her own obituary as follows - “I was fortunate to be born to loving parents, married my true love, had 7 wonderful children, 19 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, in-laws and friends. I was privileged to have loved them and been loved by them - Nothing else matters. Do not comment on jobs, clubs, education, likes, etc.” The family would like to express overwhelming gratitude for the loving and compassionate care provided by our sister Sharon, her husband Mike, granddaughter Megan and her caregiver Maria. Family and friends may join the family at Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield on Thursday, December 12th from 4 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 13th at The Church of Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Please meet directly at the Church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rocky Hill. In lieu of flowers, we are accepting toys for the children at CCMC through Love 4 Luke which may be brought to the services or dropped off at William Raveis Real Estate Wethersfield Office through 12/20 or memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
