Obituary for Mark Albert Schiro

With profound heartbreak and tremendous sadness, we announce the passing of our brother Mark (Marco) Albert Schiro, age 65, of Palm Bay, FL, formerly of Trumbull, CT. On September 7, 2021, he became reunited in heaven with his parents following a fierce two week battle with COVID-19.

Born October 30, 1955, Mark was the son of the late Albert and Lillian Schiro. He leaves behind his two sisters Jane (Jorge) Simón and Gail Schiro, his two nieces Janine (Ben) Greenspan and Arielle Martins, and nephew Randall (Megan) Martins. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his nephew Evan Simón.

Mark graduated from Trumbull High School in 1974. He served as Junior class Vice President and proudly achieved the Boy Scouts of America’s highest rank of Eagle Scout. After earning a degree from Housatonic Community College, he received a full-ride scholarship to attend Purdue University and graduated with a B.S. degree in Biochemistry in 1978. After graduation, he began his career as a Genetics Laboratory Technologist at Wesleyan University, where he and his team conducted groundbreaking Drosophila melanogaster recombinant DNA research.

When Mark’s parents retired and relocated to Florida, he joined them in order to help them start a new family business while continuing to further his education. In 1992, he graduated from the Florida Institute of Technology earning an M.S. degree in Computer Science.

Mark was an avid chess player and had a passion for collecting stamps, coins and memorabilia. He was active in the Catholic church from his early days serving as an altar boy at St. Theresa’s church in Trumbull, playing guitar with the folk choir at the Purdue University chapel and was an active Third-Degree Knights of Columbus member for over 10 years, volunteering tirelessly at charity and fundraising events.

His family, the Knights of Columbus brothers, his friends and classmates will always remember that infectious smile, sense of humor, gregarious enthusiasm, clever mind and kind-hearted spirit.

A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Mark’s life will be held at 10:00 am on October 25, 2021 at St. Dunstan Church, 1345 Manchester Rd, Glastonbury, CT, immediately followed by internment at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1318 Hebron Ave. Glastonbury, CT. CDC social distancing and masking protocols will be followed. To leave condolences, or for more information, please visit farleysullivan.com
