Obituary for Marjorie Abbott (Sackett)

Marjorie (Sackett) Abbott, 97, most recently of New Britain and Hartford, CT and formerly of Harwich Port, MA and Wethersfield, CT, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother died peacefully Friday, November 3, 2023 with family at her side. Marge was born July 27, 1926 in Hartford, CT to the late William & Margaret Sackett. Marge spent her childhood years in Hartford graduating from Mount Saint Joseph Academy in 1943 and St. Joseph College (now University of St. Joseph) in 1947. While at SJC she met the love of her life, Ronald Abbott, who was attending the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester MA. Together with her future in laws, Marge and Ron enjoyed many Holy Cross football and basketball games. Marge and Ron married in 1950 and spent the next 66 years raising their family, primarily in Wethersfield. Marge enjoyed swimming and tennis at Pine Acres during her Wethersfield years and family vacations at the Connecticut shore and Cape Cod. In 1994, Marge & Ron moved to their Cape Cod home where they joined the Chatham Harwich Newcomers Club and made many new friends. Marge was a member of the Harwich Garden Club and enjoyed puttering in her garden, as well as reading, playing bridge, conversation and shopping. She was happiest when with Ron and her large family and was always smiling and laughing. Marge will be remembered for her optimism, intellect, generosity, and strong faith. Marge was predeceased by Ron (in 2016), her sisters Marian and Peg Sackett and her son-in-law Ed Parker. She is survived by her beloved children Kathleen Abbott; Joan & Clark Nelson, their children Daniel (Erika), Bethany (Jake Beller), Brendan (Christine); Marian Parker, her children Lauren (Alex Chaiken), Brian (fiancée Jessica), Shannon Hokans (Carl); William & Janet Abbott, their children Christina Seluga (Jim), Carrie Scholz (Alex); Margot & Lawrence Orkins, Jr., their children Christopher, Patrick (fiancée Dani), Meghan, Hayley; Robert Abbott, his children Griffin, Isabella, Bridget; Elizabeth & Walter Shea, their children Jack, Tom, Mickey, Kara; great grandchildren Colin, Reed, Grant, Lily, Caroline, Alexandra, Garrett, Ryann, Eleanor; and her sister Ann Irving. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Monsignor Bojnowski Manor for their compassionate care during the last month of Marge’s life. Calling hours are at Farley Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield, CT from 9-10:30 am Friday, November 24, 2023 followed by a mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Parish (formerly Corpus Christi Church), 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield, CT. Burial at the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA will be at the convenience of the family.
