Obituary for Marion Kingsbury

Marion Kingsbury completed her life’s journey peacefully on July 3, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Residence in Enfield, CT. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on December 29, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Fletcher Kingsbury and Barbara (Brenneis) Kingsbury. After the death of her father in 1934, she moved to her mother's family home in Waterbury, CT where she was raised. Upon graduation from Waterbury Catholic High in 1949, she followed her vocation to become a Franciscan Missionary of Mary. In 1965 she was missioned to Malaysia where she worked in the Assunta Hospital in Petaling Jaya, taught in the school of nursing and did public health nursing in surrounding squatter kampongs. She then attended the Asian Social Institute in the Philippines studying sociology to become more effective in the community development work in which she was involved. Upon her return to the U.S., she took a leave of absence from her Community, moved to San Francisco, and finally left the order. In 1989 she returned to CT. where she held various nursing positions. After her retirement she completed a four-year program of the Archdiocesan Biblical School, took courses at the Hartford Seminary and was active in her Hartford parish; St. Patrick-St. Anthony. She held an RN degree from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton MA, a BSN from St. Louis University and an M.A. in Social Science from San Francisco State University. Her passions were promoting peace in the world and in her community, environmental issues and biblical studies.

She is survived by her brother, Dr. Herbert Kingsbury and his wife Ellen of Exeter, NH, two nieces and nephews and many cousins and dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Marion’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 11:00AM in the Chapel of Saint Joseph Residence, 1365 Enfield Street, Enfield, CT.
