Obituary for John J. "Jack" Shea

John J. “Jack” Shea, 86, husband of Marianne (Steere) Shea, of Rocky Hill, passed away on October 9, 2022 at home with his family by his side. He was born in New Britain, son of the late John J. Shea, Sr. and Pauline (Looklis) Shea. Jack was a graduate of New Britain High School, Class of 1954, then served in the US Army for two years. After he was discharged, Jack graduated from Springfield College in 1962 and acquired his MBA from the University of Hartford in 1964. He started as a teacher for two years at Saint Mary School in Newington before moving to Silas Deane Middle School, where he was a Physical Education Teacher for 37 years. Jack was also the Girls Basketball and Soccer Coach at Silas Deane Middle School, winning championships in 1986 and 1994. He was elected to the Wethersfield Hall of Fame in 2006. In his younger years, Jack was also an avid softball player. Jack was a loving husband father and grandfather to his family. He had a friendly personality that was contagious to everyone he met. Jack was so influential to everyone who had the pleasure meeting him, students, fellow teachers, coaches and family members will always cherish his sense of humor.

Besides his wife, Jack leaves his children, Maribeth Presutti and her husband Chris of Durham, Dan Shea and his wife Suzanne of West Simsbury and Tom Shea and his wife Amy of Burlington. He will also be greatly missed by his beloved grandchildren Amanda, Patrick, Andrew and Jack, his sister Rose Marie Selander and his close friends Ron Palmer and Norm Priesel.
Friends may call on Thursday, October 13, 2022, 2022 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial Celebrating Jack’s life will take place on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 10:00am in Corpus Christi Church of Christ the King Parish, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Burial will follow in Saint Mary Cemetery 1141, Stanley Street, New Britain. Memorial Donations may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
