Obituary for John J. "Jack" Leahy Jr.
John "Jack" J. Leahy Jr., 80, of Hartford, departed life unexpectedly on Thursday Dec 28, 2023. He will be remembered as a loving brother, uncle, and great uncle. Born on May 18, 1943, in Hartford CT, Jack was the son of the late John and Bridget Leahy. He spent his entire life in Hartford, CT graduating from Saint Peter’s School and Bulkeley High School. He proudly served in the United States Army and then dedicated a 46-year career to the United States Postal Service.
In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his sisters Mary O'Connor and Barbara Holmes. He is survived by his sister Joan of Hartford, brother-in-law Dennis O'Connor of Jupiter, FL, two nieces Mary Litke and her husband Eric of Wethersfield and Kimberly Holmes-Talbot and her husband Wayne of Colchester, and four nephews John O'Connor and his wife Gerry of West Nyack, NY, Daniel O'Connor and his wife Jennifer of Wethersfield, Michael O'Connor and his wife Christine of Boston, MA, and Kevin O'Connor and his wife Kathleen of Rye, NY. In addition, Jack is survived by and will be remembered by many grand nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and family in Dingle, Ireland.
Known to many as John but to so many more as Uncle Jack, he will be remembered for his kindness, commitment to family, and an incredible sense of humor. He will also be remembered for his friendship and his passion for all things sports especially his Yankees, Giants, and whatever college basketball team was playing that night. And, most enduring, Uncle Jack will be remembered by his many grand nephews and nieces for always ensuring, no matter what, that a Christmas gift was delivered to each of them with the most recent one delivered just two weeks ago.
