Obituary for John Edward Kinnarney

John Edward Kinnarney passed away July 29th 2022, due to complications of Parkinson’s Disease and a brief but serious illness. John was born on August 28th, 1944 in Hartford, CT. He was proceeded in death by both of his parents; Marguerite (Collagan) and John Kinnarney as well as an infant daughter, Meghan Kinnarney. He is survived by his three children: Allison, Lauren, Brendan (Maria Reda), his grandson Liam, his bother William “Billy” Kinnarney as well as his previous wife of 32 years Maureen (McCue) Kinnarney and his current partner of 13 years Judy Eureka and her family.
Education was very important to John throughout his life, and he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics as well as pursued a Master’s Degree in Mathematics. He graduated from Hamden High School, Hamden, CT in 1962 where he proved himself as a scholar as well as played Ice Hockey and Baseball. John graduated from Southern Connecticut State University in 1966 and later attended Washington University in St. Louis on a full scholarship to pursue his Master’s Degree in Mathematics. John returned home to Connecticut and eventually to Glastonbury, his favorite town, where he raised his family along with his previous wife Maureen (McCue) Kinnarney. He relocated to Pennsylvania for work for many years only to return to his true home Glastonbury, CT. He worked for 30 years in Executive Management roles in the Commercial Property Insurance industry in both Hartford, CT and Philadelphia, PA. After retiring John enjoyed volunteering and working with the Glastonbury School District as a bus driver and crossing guard as he loved being around the students and their sports programs, especially Glastonbury H.S. Football. He went to every game he could.
John was an avid gardener and always made sure every summer there were two big, beautiful gardens filled with vegetables, flowers and fruit. He was always pursing the absolute perfect tomato and we do believe he accomplished this feat even if he would still disagree. John loved sports, especially the Hartford Whalers who later became the Carolina Hurricanes, UCONN Women’s Basketball, the New York Giants, and of course the New York Yankees - much to the chagrin of his buddies in Glastonbury who were largely Boston Red Sox fans. He was never without a book in his hand, especially a good mystery or spy novel. He was an avid reader his whole life up until his very last day, library book in hand. John enjoyed playing tennis, watching his teams on TV, and going to Saratoga to watch the ponies run.
John had a lifelong devotion to Pepe’s Pizza (New Haven, CT and later Manchester, CT), which he emphatically passed on to his children, Glenwood (Hamden, CT), and the Seven Stars Inn (Phoenixville, PA).
He leaves behind family and many friends; all are welcome to join in the celebration of his life with a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022 at 10:00AM in St. Dunstan Church, 1345 Manchester Road Glastonbury, CT. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Parkinson Disease Association (apdaparkinson.org) or to the Welles-Turner Memorial Library in Glastonbury, CT (wtmlib.info).
