John E. Flynn of Rocky Hill and formerly of Hartford, died on February 26, 2023 at age 95. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Ellen (Driscoll) Flynn. John was born on May 15, 1927 in Unionville, the son of the late William H. and Mary (Kolosky) Flynn. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1945 and received a B.S. degree from the University of Hartford in 1959. In his senior year at Farmington High, he enlisted in the US Navy at age seventeen. During World War II, he served aboard the USS Luzon in the Asiatic-Pacific area. John was honorably discharged in 1946, but was recalled to active duty for the Korean War. He served aboard the USS Vulcan and was honorable released from active duty in 1952.
John married the former Mary Ellen Driscoll on October 3, 1953. Together they raised two children, Daniel and Kathleen. He retired from the Hartford Insurance Group in 1992 after 44 ½ years, finishing as Assistant Treasurer.
John is survived by his son Daniel Flynn and his wife Catherine of Fairfax, VA and his daughter Kathleen Gonzalez and her husband Roberto of Wethersfield. He also leaves his grandchildren, Erin, Michael and Colleen Flynn and Kyle and Marisa Gonzalez. John is also survived by his sisters Mary Matava and Peg Preato.Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his brother, William J. Flynn.
Friends may call on Tuesday March 7, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating John’s life will be held on Wednesday March 8, 2023 at 10:00 in the Church of the Incarnation of Christ the King Parish, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield.
