Obituary for John J. "Jack" Sheehan Sr.

John J. Sheehan, “Jack”, 82, beloved husband of the late Eileen (Radican) Sheehan, loving father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather, entered eternal peace on Thursday, March 2, 2107. Jack was born April 2, 1934 in Hartford to the late James Patrick and Margaret (Donahue) Sheehan. Jack graduated from Bulkeley High School in Hartford and then proudly served his country during the Korean War on the USS Bennington. He married the love of his life, Eileen Mary, in May of 1954. Jack started his career as an air traffic controller at JFK Airport in New York and finished at Bradley International in Windsor Locks. He then went on to sell real estate and insurance. Jack was a devoted member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church and served as an altar boy for many years. Jack raised his family with Eileen, in Enfield. He was a Founding Father of St. Martha’s Parish and served as President of the Holy Name Society, Parish Council and the Home & School Association. He coached boys’ basketball throughout his childrens’ youth. Jack was a founder of the "Claddaugh Club” and was Enfield “Man of the Year” for the annual Hartford St. Patrick’s Day Parade. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 50, and an avid Red Sox and UCONN Men’s Basketball fan. Jacks passion was his family. His love and pride for all his family was unmatchable. He loved watching his family grow and enjoyed all the family dinners, holidays, birthday parties, and any and all opportunities to be surrounded by his loved ones. He especially loved spending time with his family at one of his favorite places, the Connecticut Shore. He was loved by all. Jack is survived by his two sons, John J. Sheehan Jr. of Somers and James Sheehan and his wife Kathy, of Niantic; a daughter, Carol S. Winter of Enfield. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, John J. Sheehan III and his wife Nikki, Timothy R. Sheehan, Megan and Greg Gwudz, Tara Elizabeth Sheehan, Kaylah and Dustin Culp, Jennifer Sheehan, Ashley Winter and Evan Sheehan; six great grandchildren, Grady, Flynn and Sullivan Sheehan, Weston Smith and Wade and Taylor Gwudz; a brother, Thomas Sheehan and his wife Sandra, of Niantic; a sister Margaret Meyers and her husband, Robert of Bethel; and his sister in law Carolyn Hager and her husband Joe, of Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years Eileen Mary; a daughter Margaret Mary Sheehan; a daughter in law, Elizabeth Ann Sheehan; two sisters, Katherine Pitkin and Mary Quinn; and a brother, James Sheehan. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Jack’s life will be held Monday, March 6, 2017 at 10am in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield (all attendees are asked to go directly to church). Friends may call on the family, Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 3-7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. Burial will be private.
