Obituary for James E Tyler

James E. Tyler, 89, husband of the late Patricia (Koch) Tyler, passed away April 24, 2023 at Gladeview Healthcare Center of Old Saybrook. He was born in Hartford, son of the late Oscar and Ruth (Heller) Tyler. Jim retired from the Southern New England Telephone Company, where he worked as a switchman. Jim was able to design, build, remodel, or repair absolutely anything. He plumbed and wired homes for himself and his family, built additions, decks and garages, did his own vehicle and equipment repairs, and rebuilt vintage vehicles from the ground up. He passed on these skills and a “can do-it” spirit to his children and grandchildren. Jim was artistic and spent many hours designing stained glass lamps, villages, and window hangings for his family. He loved spending time with his family and, especially, his beloved Patty. Jim will be remembered as a kind man, a hard worker, a talented craftsman, and a loving, dedicated provider for his family.
Jim will greatly be missed by his children, Ron Tyler and his wife Ellen of Abbot, ME and Old Lyme, Irene Corsino and her husband Nunzio of Old Lyme, and Mark Tyler and his wife Sheri of North Granby, his grandchildren, Amanda Meier and her husband Matthew, Christopher Bourne and his wife Julia, James Tyler and his wife Lesley, Elizabeth Eagan and her husband Michael, Daniel Tyler and his wife Katie, Robert Tyler and his wife Julia, and Grace Tyler and 12 great-grandchildren.
The Tyler family would like to thank the staff at Gladeview for their compassionate care.
There will be a private memorial service and burial. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home has care of the arrangements. To extend condolences, please visit Farleysullivan.com.
