James F. Tuohy, 95, husband of the late Dorothy (Sullivan) Tuohy of West Hartford, passed away peacefully Saturday April 17, 2021. He was born in Hartford, son of the late Patrick and Beatrice (Hurley) Tuohy on October 7, 1925. Jim graduated from St. Michael School and Weaver High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy immediately after high school and was stationed in the Pacific Theater during WWII, participating in the invasion of Okinawa on the LST 890. On June 2, 1951 he and Dot were married. Jim worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years, retiring in 1981. He then returned to school at 55 years of age and achieved his Accounting Degree from the Morse School of Business, graduating first in his class. Jim went on to work at the Hartford Insurance Group and finally as the Comptroller at Mobile Redemptions, Inc. He was Vice-President of the Blue Hills Civic Association, member of St. Justin Church Holy Name Society, led the St. Justin Church Teen Club, and was very instrumental in fundraising for the Northwest Catholic High School Building Committee. Jim also loved spending time every year at Old Lyme Shores with his family. He always had a positive outlook on life, a zest for living and a great sense of humor. Jim had an amazing memory for people, events and dates, until the very end. He was very proud of his family, being a WWII Veteran, his Irish heritage, growing up in the North End of Hartford and cherished many lifelong friends from St. Justin Parish and the Blue Hills Neighborhood. In his later years, he always attended his grandchildren’s recitals and sporting events. After his wife passed away, he thoroughly enjoyed living at The McAuley for three years. The Tuohy family would like to thank Avery Heights Unit Three staff for their outstanding care and compassion of Jim during these last few months.
