Obituary for Guy Sanderson

Guy Lewis Sanderson, dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend, died at home in Wethersfield, CT on Thursday, September 21, 2023. Guy was born to Robert-Emerson and Olga Sanderson in Hartford, CT on November 30, 1940. He graduated East Hartford High School in 1959. In 1960, he met the love of his life, Cae Maragnano, on a blind date. They were married in East Hartford on April 20, 1963, and went on to have three children. After several moves, they settled in Glastonbury, CT where they lived for 41 years. After serving briefly in the Air Force Reserve, he was accepted into and graduated from Hamilton Standard’s drafting program. From there he went on to work successfully for several companies including Smyth Manufacturing where he was awarded a patent for new bookbinding technology. Then he decided to transition into Sales and found his niche!! He was recruited by Longford Equipment International Ltd in Toronto, Canada, where he spent many years selling and servicing complex collating and packaging equipment to his customers, most of which as an independent representative, owning the U.S. Division of the company. Guy enjoyed a lifelong passion for boating, spending summers on his beloved Crew’s Inn trawler, enjoying the New England waterways with his friends and family. He enjoyed woodworking, cooking and reading, and was highly skilled in home renovations (designing and building their home in Glastonbury as well as being involved in countless home additions and renovations for family and friends), and was never without a project that needed finishing! But his top passion was spending time with his family. In retirement Guy and Cae enjoyed winters in Florida where they owned a condominium in Naples, as well as in rentals in several other south Florida locations, where they hosted friends and family every year. He was known for his sense of humor AND his strong opinions – never turning down an opportunity to engage in debate - no matter how unpopular his opinion! He would be the first to drop whatever he was doing to help someone in need.
Guy is survived by his wife, Cae; their children; Michael and his wife, Mary-Ellen of Sudbury, MA; Kathy and husband Alan Gottlieb of Parkland FL; Robert (Bob) of Marlborough CT; and grandchildren: Tori, Jackie and husband Connor Murphy, Andrew, Saige and Clay; brother Robert (Bruce); as well as an enormous extended family of in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Guy was predeceased by his father, Robert, and mother, Olga Shea, as well as his beloved Mother-in-Law, Carol Maragnano.
Calling hours will be held at Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home at 50 Naubuc Ave, Glastonbury, CT 06033, on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. Guy had spent more than 10 years resisting the progressive effects of heart disease. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association, or to your favorite charity. Per the family’s request, there will be no funeral services. For more information, or to leave a condolence, please visit FarleySullivan.com.
