George Dealey Edwards Sr. of West Hartford passed away on January 4, 2021 at the UConn Medical Center after a period of declining health. George was born July 11, 1934 in Providence, RI, to Gurney and Beth (Dealey) Edwards. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; children, George D. Edwards Jr., Anthony V. Edwards, Marian Pierre-Louis, Rachel Edwards, step-daughter Roz DesJardins and ten grandchildren: Henry, Isabel, Owen, Averyl, Addison, Luco, Joey, Seeber, Michael and Stephen. He was pre-deceased by his two brothers, Charles and James. After graduating from The Loomis Institute and Wesleyan College he served as an officer in the Navy. He then received his Masters from the Wharton School. He served as assistant Town Manager in Bloomfield, CT then became the Town Manager of Granby, CT. In 1968 he shifted to working for housing development programs in Middletown, CT and Albany, NY. He returned to CT as executive director for the Connecticut Housing Investment Fund (CHIF). After that he focused on commercial real estate brokerage before he finished his career as the Director of the CT State Properties Review Board. George had a gregarious personality and was known for his broad smile which he freely shared. He firmly believed in the benefits of a Liberal Arts education and would expound on that any chance he got. He was a quick wit and a great conversationalist. A West Hartford resident since 1978, over the years he loved gardening, playing tennis, sailing, enjoying family and friends, and visiting his special summer place, Westport, MA. He instilled in his kids a love of nature walks, history, birds and chocolate. Sid the beagle was his beloved faithful companion. In recent years he treasured meeting up with his buddies for Thursday afternoon happy hour.
