Eva (Hrywka) Zastawsky of Wethersfield passed away Sunday, February 9th at the age of 95. She was pre-deceased by her husband John and is survived by sons Roman and Jaroslaw (with his wife Catherine) and her grandsons Roman (with wife Maryellen, daughter Alexandra and son Nikolas) and Myron (with wife Zenia, daughter Kalyna and son Maksym). Born in Ukraine in 1924 she endured occupation and forced labor in Germany during World War II. After liberation by the Allies, she met and married her husband in a displaced persons refugee camp. In 1949 she emigrated with her husband and now two sons to the United States; first to Richmond, Virginia and then to Hartford and subsequently to Wethersfield. She worked for many years for the Underwood and Royal Typewriter companies and ultimately retired from Whitney Chain Drive. She was a life-long congregant of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church and held membership in the Ukrainian American Youth Association, the women’s auxiliary of the Organization for the Defense of the Four Freedoms of Ukraine and the choirs Dibrova and Horlytsi. She was also an avid supporter and volunteer worker at the Ukrainian National Home. Funeral will be from Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home at 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield with calling hours on Thursday, February 13, 2020 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, with a Panakhida Service at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church 135 Wethersfield Avenue, Hartford on Friday, February 14th at 10:00am. Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, New London Turnpike in Glastonbury. Donations may be made to Ukrainian National Home, 961 Wethersfield Avenue, Hartford, CT 06114.
