Obituary for Emily Kovacs

Emily Kovacs of Glastonbury, beloved wife of the late Darwin Kovacs, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on January 22, 2022. She was born in New York City on November 28, 1919 to Philip and Marietta Pollina. She was a graduate of Julia Richman High School and after graduation, worked in the operations department for Macy’s where she became one of the first women supervisors. She and Darwin were married in 1945 and raised their family in Bridgeport and Glastonbury. She was an avid card player, and theater and movie buff where she volunteered for many years with The Jimmy Fund. She loved her family and friends (and made the best lasagna in town). Emily was a long-time employee of the State of Connecticut having worked in the Adult Probation, Highway and Public Works departments.
She will be dearly missed by her daughters Debra Kovacs Diers of Glastonbury and Pamela Proctor of Lake Mary Florida, son and daughter-in-law Darwin and Susan Kovacs of Glastonbury, her grandchildren Jasper and Diane Diers of Glastonbury, Adam Proctor of Lake Mary, Florida, James Proctor of Lake Mary, Florida, Amy and Scott Leppert of Glastonbury and Sarah and Christopher Prior of Columbia. She will especially be missed by her great-grandchildren Dylan and James Diers, Natalie and Elliott Leppert and Riley Prior. She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews, especially, Arlene Papa of New York City, who always held a special place in Mom’s heart. Besides her husband Darwin, she was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Rose Papa and Josephine Florio, her brothers Charles Pollina and Paul Pollina, her sister-in-law Louise Kripinger and her son-in-law Howard Proctor.
Please remember Emily by doing a good deed, passing on a kind word, making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association of Connecticut (200 Executive Blvd, Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489) or to the charity of your choice. Emily’s family would like to especially thank the staff and management of Brookdale Buckingham in Glastonbury and VITAS Hospice – your love and caring for our Mom made her journey a bit easier. There are no calling hours, but a Celebration of Emily’s life will be planned for the summer. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Glastonbury, has care of the arrangements. For further information, or to leave a condolence, please visit FarleySullivan.com
