Obituary for Elynor O'Neill (Melly)

Elynor (Melly) O’Neill, wife of the late Thomas J. O’Neill, Jr., of Niantic and Highland Beach, FL, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 in Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. She was born in Hartford, daughter of the late Peter J. and Nora (Sheehan) Melly. Elynor was very close with not only her own family, but her many nieces and nephews, who played a big role in her life. She was also involved with her friends in a women’s prayer group at St. Matthias Church, East Lyme. Elynor retired from the State of Connecticut and went on to volunteer at the Catholic Charities Thrift Shop in New London. Elynor leaves her son, Thomas J. O’Neill III and his wife Jennifer, of Marlborough, three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Caroline and Victoria; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Elynor was predeceased by two brothers and their wives, John G. and Anne Melly and Joseph P. and Virginia Melly; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Salvatore Lagana. Friends may pay their respects to the family on Sunday, June 8, 2014 from 5pm to 8pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. All are asked to go directly to church. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery (Section 15), 200 Whitman Ave., West Hartford.
