Obituary for Elvera C. Bannon

Elvera (Colonna) Bannon 88, cherished wife of Fred Bannon Sr. broke her earthly bonds Dec 7, 2020. She fell asleep next to her beloved husband as she had for 72 years. Theirs was a love that fairy tales are made of. He called her his Queen and she wore the crown well. Ellie, Vera, Mama Kat, was born Feb 24,1932 (a Pisces) in Hartford, Ct. She was a graduate of Bulkeley High School, Class of 1950. Her interests became her passions. Astrology, "when is your birthday" was always her first question. Photography, evidenced by the reels of home movies and photos documenting her life. Plants and flowers that thrived for her. Of course, her "bling", she was after all the original Diva. And people, all people and cultures. When you met her you felt special, interesting, never judged. Her sense of humor and passion for life was unmatched.
Alas, her fiercest passion was her family. Her children Fred Jr (Maria) Bannon, Lillian (Joe) Farinella, Jeff (Terri) Bannon, Loretta Harvey and John Bannon who she is reunited with. She was a Mama Lion, loving, protective, playful and strong. She instilled a passion of life and love in all her "kids''. She gave them wings and showed them places and heights they could soar to. Her grandchildren Paul (Kimberly) Farinella, Jennifer (Shawn) Farmer, Justin (Christa) Piper, John Vincent Bannon, Steven (Hannah) Bannon and Leah Harvey were her absolute pride and joy and they adored her. She was GiGi to her great-grandchildren Mary Rose, Julia, Ana, Addison, Emma, Lyla, Lincoln and Avery. She was truly enthralled by them. Along with her son John, she is reunited with her parents Vincent and Mary Colonna, her brother Henry Colonna and her sister Virginia Brenzinger, who predeceased her and too many dear friends to mention that she loved and enjoyed getting together and entertaining and missed them all terribly.
Due to the COVID situation, there will be no services at this time. The family has requested that you leave a memory of thoughts on www.Farleysullivan.com that they can print as a keepsake. She loved her country and was the proud daughter, sister, wife and mother of a Veteran. Donations in her name can be made to Rocky Hill VFW Post 2138 3272 Main St, Rocky Hill CT 06067. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home has care of the arrangements.
