Obituary for Ella Tine (Patzlaff)

It is with profound sadness the family of Ella Tine announce her peaceful passing on August 10, 2023 just 37 days shy of her 99th birthday. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Nancy Dauphinais and Joanne Romano. She will be dearly missed by sister Pat Paul, sister-in-law Eleanor (Jim) Bevins, daughters-in-law Gail Tine, Chris Tine, Lucy Tine, 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, many friends and members of Stephany Seniors of Rocky Hill, along with her extended family from Torrington, and all her special calls and treats from Babe and Arlene Sarver.

Ella was predeceased by her parents Ida and Edward Patzlaff, husband of 61 years Paul Tine, sons Michael Tine and Paul Tine Jr, sons-in-law George Dauphinais and Michael Romano, grandson Jay Romano, and granddaughter Brittanney Tine, twin sister Frieda Craig, brothers Kurt, Edward, and Walter Patzlaff, brother-in-law Joe Tine and his wife Theresa and sister-in-law Mary Sapienza and her husband Mario.

Before moving to Rocky Hill, Ella and Paul raised their family on Franklin Avenue in Hartford, CT. An invitation to her weekly family Italian dinners were sought after. Ella enjoyed a 40+ year career as candy maker extraordinaire for Thompson Chocolate of Meriden specializing in holiday chocolate molds. She knew the grade and taste of all US chocolate. She and Paul enjoyed vacations to Florida, Lake George, Pittsburgh, Atlantic City and trips to the CT casinos. Ella became an active member of Stephany Seniors, Rocky Hill Community Center. Her favorite word was BINGO. Until July, she was playing 9 bingo cards and was a frequent winner. She enjoyed card games and craft sessions at the Community Center. Ella crocheted and knitted many lap quilts for the VA Home. Ella loved the dining out bus trips with seniors, bus trips for plays in Bethlehem, PA with stops at a PA casino.

In her later years Ella enjoyed her Sunday Fundays in Torrington by the pool drinking homemade wine and enjoying a hotdog. Ella was an avid WWE fan, and of John Cena in particular. Some highlights for her were getting to touch Roman Reigns entering the ring and John Cena wishing her a happy 96th birthday. As Ella once said not long ago, Cena could “put his boots under her bed anytime”, a perfect anecdote for her quick wit and zest for life. She was an inspiration to younger seniors and all of us as we grow older.
