Condolence From: Faith Morrell McIntosh
Condolence: Dear Mrs. Leahy, I was sad to hear of your passing, but you were sick for a long time and I know you’re at peace now. I was a naive, insecure, little brown girl from a Caribbean island where stress was low and life was good, suddenly thrust into a foreign land where people who looked like me were treated badly and made to feel inferior. When I look back now, life in Connecticut in the late sixties/early seventies was both simple and difficult. You used to invite me in for an after-school snack which was usually one of your delicious, open-face, hot turkey sandwiches; you introduced me to them. I’d never even heard of a hot sandwich before! I have such fond memories of you. I close my eyes and see Mary-Ellen and I seated at the kitchen table while you worked over the stove in your apron and those black, nurses’ boots. I always wondered why you wore those boots, but I suppose you found them comfortable. You really were the consummate mother. I recall your soft, lilting, Irish accent when you calmly and jokingly scolded Mary-Ellen or the boys. You had a very gentle sense of humor. You were one of the first people in my life who made me feel pretty – you’d always gush over my “big eyes and long eyelashes,” and made a little girl suffering from culture shock gain a small foothold of acceptance in a new, complicated country. I love you – rest in peace.

Condolence: Elizabeth was my neighbor for many years and she was a kind person. I remember in the summer she and Michael would sit on their porch in the evenings and they always waved and said hi. May she rest in peace and my sympathy to Michael and the family.

I always remembered she could be stern at times but, ALWAYS had a bright smile and was very kind to me. Our thoughts and Prayers are with you all, and I hope Mom can rest comfortable and in peace now. Please say Hi to everyone. Tony & Terry Giusani
