Obituary for Edward J. Sullivan

Edward Joseph Sullivan, 93, of Wethersfield, CT, husband of Marion Lyman Sullivan for 65 years, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2017. Ed was born in Hartford, CT, son of the late Edward J. Sullivan Sr. and late Ethel (Massey) Sullivan. He was a graduate of Bulkeley High School Class of 1940, attended Trinity College in Hartford and then served in the U.S. Army 84th Infantry Division, European Theater for 3 years. Ed worked for the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation for 43 years, retiring as Chief of Boundary and Geodetic Surveys. He was also a registered Professional Land Surveyor for many years. Ed was a member of VFW Post 6041 and served as Commander for 2 years. He was a member of the Church of the Incarnation and belonged to the Incarnation Men’s Club. Ed loved gardening and traveling.
In addition to his wife Marion, he leaves a son, James Sullivan and his wife Dianne, of Glastonbury, and a Daughter-in-Law, Susan Sullivan of Marlborough. He also leaves his 5 grandchildren, Caroline Sullivan Brown and her husband Steven of Southington, Timothy Sullivan and his wife Desiree of West Orange, NJ, Katie Sullivan of Vernon, Brian Sullivan of Stamford, and Matthew Sullivan of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Ed also leaves his great-granddaughter, Emmalee Brown of Southington, and many nieces and nephews.
Ed was pre-deceased by his son, Thomas Sullivan of Marlborough, and an infant son, Robert Sullivan, who died at birth, his brother Richard Sullivan of Linn, OR and his 2 sisters, Ethel Swanson of New Britain and Mary Kvart of Manchester.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday March 8, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Farley-Sullivan funeral home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday March 9, 2017 at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St, Wethersfield, CT followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1318 Hebron Ave. (at Wickham Rd.), Glastonbury, CT.
