Obituary for Edward F. Sitnik
Ed was born in Hartford, CT on January 20, 1930 to the late Jacob W. and Helen (Dyka) Sitnik. He attended Hartford public schools, graduating from Hartford Public High School in 1948. Ed went on to study at Alliance College in Cambridge Springs, PA, from which he received his bachelor’s degree in 1952. While a student at Alliance, Ed hosted a sports program at the college radio station. One of his greatest memories was interviewing such sport celebrities as Los Angeles Rams quarterback and West Point graduate Glenn Davis, Rams teammates Bob Waterfield and Joe Stydyhar, San Francisco ‘49ers quarterback Frankie Albert, ‘49ers teammates Buck Shaw and Len Eshmont, as well as Boston Braves centerfield Sam Jethroe who went on to be named “Rookie of the Year.” Ed returned to his alma mater in 1958 when he was elected to a four-year term on the Board of Trustees for Alliance College.
Immediately following his college graduation Ed served in the U.S. Army for two years, of which 15 months were spent in Germany. Returning to Hartford in 1954, Ed was employed by the Municipal Court in Hartford as a Domestic Relations officer, becoming Director of Domestic Relations. Eventually Ed served as Assistant Chief Bail Commissioner for the Circuit Court and the Superior Court from which he retired after many years of service.
Two constants in Ed’s life have been his involvement in coaching youth sports programs and his service to Polish fraternal organizations. Ed served two four-year terms as Vice Censor of the Polish National Alliance, a national insurance fraternity based in Chicago, Illinois, and as a board member of The Polish National Home in Hartford, of which his father was a founding director. For eight years Ed managed the Little League ‘Teamsters” at Colt’s Park, teaching young children the game’s fundamentals--which he had learned when he played ball in high school and college. Sgt. Francis “Star” Kelly, President of the Greater Hartford Little League, had learned of Ed’s baseball prowess and enlisted him to coach. Since the good sergeant outranked his Army designation of corporal, Ed felt obligated to accept! Ed was passionate and loyal to these endeavors which gave him much purpose and many lifelong friends.
Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mae (McCarthy) Sitnik, his sisters Josephine Sitnik Sarna and Helen Sitnik, brothers Zygmund E. and Richard H. Sitnik, and brothers-in-laws James McCarthy and Bill McCarthy. He is survived by stepdaughter Nancy Pawloski Perrotto and her husband Francis, stepsons Walter T. and Gary Pawloski, daughters-in-law Nadine Pawloski and Heidi Pawloski, sisters-in-law Mary Z. Sitnik and Josephine McCarthy, and brother-in-law Jack McCarthy. Ed leaves behind the joys of his life, his beloved grandchildren, Thomas J. Pawloski, Elyssa Mae Pawloski and Robert J. Pawloski cherished niece and nephews Joan Sitnik Walsh and her husband, Michael, Richard L. Sitnik and his wife Joyce, and Louis P. Sitnik and his wife, Mary, as well as grandnieces and grandnephews, Alexandra C. Walsh, Jacob M. Walsh, Bryan R. Sitnik, Kara M. Sitnik, Diana L. Sitnik, and Micaela M. Walsh.
Friends may call on Friday January 3, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Ed’s life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 10:00 AM in Saint Dunstan Church, 1345 Manchester Road, Glastonbury.
