Obituary for Danuta Oldziej (Backiel)

Danuta (Backiel) Oldziej, 84, of Hartford, beloved wife to the late Stanislaw Oldziej, passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Danuta was born on March 16, 1939, in Poland, to the late Stefan and Stanislawa (Kurowska) Backiel. She moved to Hartford in March of 1982 with her family and went to work for many years at Hartford Hospital. Danuta was a very faithful and devout Catholic, she became a communicant of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church in Hartford and later joined the Rosary Society. Danuta was a selfless and benevolent woman who always took care of everyone before herself, especially her children. She was known for her tremendous gardening skills and loved having fresh flowers around the house.

Danuta will be missed by her five children, Irena Mojsa and her husband Ryszard, Miroslaw Oldziej and his wife Renata, Marzena Fowler and her husband William, Robert Oldziej and his wife Breanne, and Ewelina Oldziej. Her grandchildren, Christopher, Justine, Kelly, Lauren, Sarah, Christian and Lydia as well as her brother Zbignew Backiel in Poland. Danuta is predeceased by her grandson, Brandon Gerard Chamberland.

Friends and family may call from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday, June 9, 2023 at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Danuta's life will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 9:30am in Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church, 63 Popieluszko Ct, Hartford, CT 06106.
