Obituary for Catherine Bigley McGovern (Bigley)

On 17, November, 2019, Dr. Catherine Bigley McGovern, loving wife of Peter J. McGovern, passed away in Hospice at home, with her family at her side, shortly after her birthday. “Kate”, was born November 6, 1939, the daughter to the late Walter J. and Catherine V. (Madden) Bigley. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, law professor and Oblate of St. Benedict. At 58, and a long career in the arts and entertainment community in Chicago, she entered the John Marshall Law School in Chicago. Kate graduated from the law school in 2001 with a J.D. Degree and an L.L.M. Degree in Intellectual Property Law and became an Adjunct Professor for the Intellectual Property and Information Technology Center at DePaul University College of Law, Chicago. Having taught in numerous law schools in the U.S. and around the world, Kate passed away during her tenure as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the UConn School of Law, where she taught in the areas of Art Law, Entertainment Law and Museum Law. She touched the lives of many soon to be lawyers. Along with her husband Peter, Kate will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her two adored sons, Brian and Sean; and two cherished grandsons, Oliver and Sheperd.
