Obituary for Anne C. Pickering Power

Anne C. Pickering Power, Age 58 of West Hartford passed away unexpectedly on January 3, 2020 at her home in West Hartford. She was the beloved daughter of the Nora E. (Collins) Pickering and the late Robert J. Pickering. Anne attended St. Thomas the Apostle Elementary School and Northwest Catholic High School class of 1979. Upon graduation she attended Villanova University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration in 1983. While working at Connecticut Bank and Trust, Anne decided to further her education. She attended the Hartford Graduate Center eventually earning her MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Anne was employed until her retirement in 2017 by the State of Connecticut Department of Revenue Services as a Tax Examiner. Anne was a sensitive soul who was generous to a fault and appreciated all of the small things in life. She enjoyed the company of family and friends whenever and wherever a crowd could gather. She was especially fond of the close relationships which she developed during her high school years. Prior to the onset of health issues Anne led an active life. She had an avid interest in walking, especially at all of the local reservoirs. She also enjoyed yoga and swimming year round at the Cornerstone Pool. She adored travelling and welcomed any opportunity to visit new locales. Anne was a lifelong learner, a voracious reader who prided herself on being knowledgeable on most all topics, especially those involving financial affairs. Anne will be missed by all of the people whose lives she touched most especially her family. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard C. Pickering and her brother-in-law, David R. Dlugos. She is survived by her loving sisters, Mary L. Pickering of West Hartford and Nora E. (Pickering) Dlugos of West Hartford and her children Robert (Rory), Caroline (Kiki) and Ellen. She also leaves her beloved brother, Attorney Robert P. Pickering and his wife, Ellamarie DeLoreto of Wethersfield and their children, Kayla and Lauren. Anne’s family would like to express our sincere appreciation to Cecilia Cuadros who selflessly cared for Anne over the past years. Friends may call on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Anne's life will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford. All attendees are requested to go directly to church. Burial will follow in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield.
