Obituary for Ann McGovern (Fennell)

Ann (Fennell) McGovern, of Wethersfield, loving wife of Patrick McGovern, died Friday, April 22, 2022. Ann was born on July 6, 1931 in Philadelphia to the Late William and Gertrude (Craven) Fennell. She graduated from Mt. Saint Joseph Academy in West Hartford in 1949 and attended Saint Francis School of Nursing. She later worked at the Aetna, where she met her future husband and they were married on October 27, 1956. Ann liked reading animals and especially children. She volunteered at St. Agnes Home for unwed mothers.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her son, John McGovern of Newington, her daughter Ann (Beth) McGovern and good friend, Paul Campbell, of Wethersfield as well as many nephews, nieces and friends. She was pre-deceased by her sisters Mary Condon, Kathleen Talbot and Patricia Martucci. Ann was a quiet, sensitive, loving wife, daughter, sister, friend and mother. The following words express Ann's life: "The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother" – St. Therese of Lisieux.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd. Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Ann's life will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 10:00AM in Corpus Christi Church of Christ the King Parish, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield, all attendees are asked to go directly to church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
