Obituary for Ann B. McGovern (Martin)

Ann B. (Martin) McGovern, 81, loving wife of sixty years to Dr. John P. McGovern, passed away peacefully Monday, July 15, 2019 at Hartford Hospital. Ann was born on December 13, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, one of two daughters of the late James and Catherine (Treanor) Martin. Growing up in Manhattan, she was a proud graduate of Corpus Christi Grammar School and Blessed Sacrament HS. However, her heart always belonged in the Bronx where she moved as a teenager. She loved sports, especially her beloved New York Yankees and New York Jets. An accomplished basketball player, she held the record for most points scored in a girl’s high school basketball game in NYC for over fifty years. She enjoyed coaching CYO basketball and was an avid supporter of Catholic Education. Professionally, she was a devoted Customer Service Supervisor at the US Navy Exchange at Mitchell Field. Before retiring to South Glastonbury, Long Island was her home for over forty-five years.
Ann’s greatest love and passion was her family and she especially treasured her time with them. In addition to her husband, Ann will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her loving family: her three daughters and their spouses, Barbara and Thomas Pescuma of West Islip, N.Y., Coleen and Victor Antico of South Glastonbury, and Deirdre and Brian Moore of Glen Rock, NJ; a sister, Sister Eileen Martin S.C. of Riverdale, NY; her sisters in law Maureen and Bridget McGovern; as well as her adored grandchildren, Thomas Jr. and Maria, Nicholas, and Michael Pescuma; Stephen, Jack, and Katherine Antico; Patrick and Anne Moore; and her three cherished great grandchildren, Tommy, Bianca, and Jeremy.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects to the McGovern family, Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 4-7pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Avenue, Glastonbury. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Ann’s life will be Friday, July 19th at 10:30 am in St. Paul Church at Ss. Isidore and Maria Parish, 2577 Main St. Glastonbury. Ann will be interred in the family plot in St. John Cemetery, 80-01 Metropolitan Ave. Middle Village, NY 11379 on Saturday, July 20th at 10:30am.
