Obituary for Joseph W. "Joe" Hendron

It is with great sadness we share the passing of Joseph W. Hendron on September 24, 2019 in Saint Francis Hospital. Joe was born in Hartford on March 4, 1930, son of the late Frank T. and Grace (Rice) Hendron. He was the sixth child of seven children and the last to pass on. Joe was married to his high school sweetheart and soulmate Janeth over 64 years ago in Saint Lawrence O’Toole Church. He graduated from Saint Augustine School and Bulkeley High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served in the Korean Conflict. Joe was wounded in action on September 11, 1951. After being discharged, he began working as a Plumber and retired in 1976. Joe was active in Plumber Union Local 76, where he was Secretary-Treasurer for many years. He went on to work for the Hartford Board of Education as Assistant Director of Building and Grounds, until retiring in 1994. He and Jan enjoyed traveling the US and Europe and Joe was an avid golfer. Joe was also active in numerous organizations including the Marine Corps League of Hartford, Marine Corps League of New Britain, Disabled Veterans (DAV), BPOE Lodge 19 and the Vet Center of Rocky Hill.
Joe will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his four children and their spouses, Kelly and Carey Linkovich, Lynn and Tony Macri, Joe and Michelle Hendron and Tim Hendron; seven adored grandchildren, Jaimie Michaud, Jillian Linkovich, Kristin Macri, Jonathan Macri, Noah Hendron, Chloe Hendron and Timothy Joseph Hendron; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Lucciano and newborn Hunter; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Besides Jan, he was predeceased by his brother Frank Hendron and sisters Grace DeVaux, Elizabeth Hendron, Sarah Landers, Alice Mary Hendron and Mary Malarney.

Friends may call on Friday September 27, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Joe’s life will be held at 10:00 AM in Saint Patrick-Saint Anthony Church, 285 Church Street, Hartford. All attendees are asked to go directly to church. Burial will follow in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield. Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 27 Park Rd., West Hartford, CT 06119.
