Obituary

Joseph McMahon Hallisey, P.E., 93, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Maureen (Fox) Hallisey, passed away peacefully following a long illness associated with polycystic kidney disease on Friday, September 13, 2019, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born November 20, 1925, at his home on Hillcrest Avenue in Wethersfield, Joe was the son of the late Joseph A. and Katherine (McMahon) Hallisey; he resided in Wethersfield his entire life.
A retired structural engineer, Joe owned and operated Hallisey Engineering Associates, Inc. in Wethersfield and Hartford for more than sixty years. He graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1943. Joe proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He earned a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., graduating in 1951. A certified private pilot, Joe earned his instrument rating and was the proud owner of a Piper PA-22 Tri-Pacer N7838D. Joe was inducted into the Greater Hartford Twilight Baseball League Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Wethersfield Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
In addition to his wife Maureen of 63 years, Joe leaves behind his six loving children and their spouses: Dr. Patrick J. Hallisey and Sandy Raymond of Wayland, MA; Brendan J. Hallisey and Catherine A. Mohan of Wethersfield; Dr. Michael J. and Denise (Drisdelle) Hallisey of Wethersfield; Catherine (Hallisey) and Dr. Timothy Shannon of Branford; Matthew and Mary Kate (McGuiness) Hallisey of Glastonbury; and John and Sara (Kurian) Hallisey of Great Falls, VA. He also leaves behind his daughter-in-law Gena (Barbieri) Hallisey of Rocky Hill.
Joe also leaves behind his loving grandchildren: Kara, Erin, Genevieve and Marguerite; Maura and Catherine; Michael, Ryan and his wife Stephanie (Carvalho), David and Patrick; Owen, Oliver, Nora, Desmond and Mei Mei; Maeve, Jack and Colin; and Joe, Sam and Jake. Joe also leaves behind his brother Paul Hallisey of Rocky Hill; his brother-in-law Dr. Brendan M. Fox, Sr. of West Hartford; and many cousins, nephews, nieces and close personal friends. Many relatives, including his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley (Hallisey) and Jack Freyler, sister-in-law Margaret (Peggy) Hallisey, and close personal friends predeceased him.
Joe and his family are very grateful for the dedicated and compassionate personal service provided by his many caregivers, most especially the nurses and dialysis technicians, and the aides who cared for him at home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. James M. Moran at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield on Saturday, September 21, 2019; at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Wethersfield Village Cemetery. Michael and family, we are so sorry for your loss. I don't think you know this but your dad was very instrumental in helping my husband and I when we put an addition on our house for my mom when my dad passed. My husband drew up what he could and your dad finalized the plans and approved the structure. Without his help it would have never happened. 13yrs later mimics still enjoying, as she calls it, "her" place. May you all take comfort in your memories.

Our sympathies to all the family from John and Donna LaDucer. From John personally, as a young boy my favorite memory is when Joe returned from his military service. He entered the side door of his Hillcrest Avenue home carrying his duffle bag to see the family dog, Patty, doing backflips and barking seeing Joe.
