Obituary for William L. Lewis

William “Bill” Leibler Lewis, lifelong Glastonbury resident, beloved husband of 49 years to the late Laurette (Bourbeau) Lewis, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 9, 2015 at Apple Rehab in Middletown. Bill was born October 2, 1923, son to the late William J. and Anna (Leibler) Lewis. Bill leaves behind three children; Kathleen Lewis Gallagher and her best friend Robert Tarquinio, of Franklin, and Derry, NH; William Michael Lewis of Glastonbury, Kenneth Paul Lewis and his best friend Jan Brady, of North Stonington; four grandchildren, Kieran Gallagher and his wife Megan, of Jackson Hole, WY Meagan Gallagher and her husband Jefferson Goethals, of Hinesburg, VT, Evan Lewis of New Orleans, La, Lauren Lewis of Acton, Mass; his best friend Marilyn Toomey of Durham; two brothers-in law, Maurice Bourbeau and his wife Fran, of Glastonbury, Roger Bourbeau, and his wife Liz, of Avon; two sisters-in-law; Jean and Pat Bourbeau, both of Glastonbury, as well as many nieces and nephews. After graduation from high school Bill enlisted in the Marines, serving our country during World War II. Bill was a member of Ironworkers Local Union #15, and worked for Standard Builders until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Glastonbury Volunteer Fire Department for many years, a founding member of the Glastonbury Boat Club and a lifelong member of St. Paul’s parish. Bill and Laurette enjoyed boating on the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound. They spent many summers camping on Cape Cod. After retiring, they wintered in Ft. Myers Beach, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Bill's life will be held Saturday, April 18th at 11am in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. A reception will be held immediately following the Mass at the Gallery Restaurant, 141 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury, all are welcome. The family would like to thank the Companions and Homemakers caregivers who made it possible for Bill to remain at home these last few years. We also want to thank the staff at apple Rehab for the wonderful care they provide to Bill in his final days, In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. He had a great run! Bill’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave., Glastonbury.
