Condolence: My thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time. I remember Karen as a baby. Her father was my godfather and one of my father's best friends. Karen was born when I was in college. It made me smile because one of the wishes my father put in my baby book was that Gerard would be married before I reached 18. Unfortunately, my father died before Karen was born. He would have been pleased that Gerard had two daughters. My father always felt that "daughters were a father's delight". My father had two daughters and I know he would have been pleased that with Karen's birth Gerard had two daughters.

Condolence: To all of Karen's family: I am so very sorry for your loss. Karen was a good friend in college and I'm thankful for wonderful memories we shared. Her smile truly did brighten the room. I pray that you will find strength and comfort in the days ahead. I'd like to share this poem: "Each Life Is a Song" A life is a song we write in our own tone and key. Each life we touch reflects a note that forms the melody. We choose the theme and chorus of the song to bear our name, and each will have a special sound...no two can be the same. So when someone we love departs, in memory we find their song plays on within the hearts of those they leave behind. May God Bless You

Condolence: Words are so difficult at a time like this...poetry has always be a way to feel into the multitude of feelings- and I have all of those...for all of Karen's loved ones and those whose lives she would have touched. I am hoping that poet John O'Donohue's words may soothe and comfort all of you, as they are a balm for my own heartbreak. with kind care, abbe For Grief When you lose someone you love, Your life becomes strange, The ground beneath you becomes fragile, Your thoughts make your eyes unsure; And some dead echo drags your voice down Where words have no confidence Your heart has grown heavy with loss; And though this loss has wounded others too, No one knows what has been taken from you When the silence of absence deepens. Flickers of guilt kindle regret For all that was left unsaid or undone. There are days when you wake up happy; Again inside the fullness of life, Until the moment breaks And you are thrown back Onto the black tide of loss. Days when you have your heart back, You are able to function well Until in the middle of work or encounter, Suddenly with no warning, You are ambushed by grief. It becomes hard to trust yourself. All you can depend on now is that Sorrow will remain faithful to itself. More than you, it knows its way And will find the right time To pull and pull the rope of grief Until that coiled hill of tears Has reduced to its last drop. Gradually, you will learn acquaintance With the invisible form of your departed; And when the work of grief is done, The wound of loss will heal And you will have learned To wean your eyes From that gap in the air And be able to enter the hearth In your soul where your loved one Has awaited your return All the time. --John O'Donohue

Condolence: Dear Family of Karen, I am so so sorry for your loss/our loss. I remember very clearly the day Karen came to work at CVH/Dutcher Hall/Ward 73 that is now known as Dutcher South 3. Amy Moran, Tanya Lemanski, Bernadette Riddick and myself, all mental health workers together. What a ball we had together back then, some 20 something yrs ago. I remember her getting engaged to Mark, us throwing her a bridal shower at work, her announcing her first pregnancy and then another. She was always a kind soul. As time went on and our paths went in different directions, I remember very fondly, every time our paths would cross again, we ALWAYS greeted each other with a smile and and a warm hug like picking up where we last left off.....Rest in peace My Friend!

Condolence: My condolences to all of Karen's family and friends. What a loss. Karen was gentle and kind to everyone she came into contact with. She taught me so much and was unaware at the time she was doing so. I'm pleased That I was able to tell her how special she was and how much I learned from her. I am thankful for that. Rest now...till we meet again.
