Obituary for Jeanette E. Soroko

Jeanette E. Soroko, 94, of Wethersfield, passed away Thursday December 31, 2015, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Rocky Hill. She was born on November 26, 1921 in Hartford, CT, daughter of the late Harry and Stephanie (Tarasiuk) Soroko. Prior to her retirement, Jeanette was an employee for 38 years of the U.S Government Defense Supply Agency. As a government inspector at Colt Fire Arms she could assemble entirely the Browning Machine Gun. She was very proud to have been the first woman Property Disposal Manager in the North East Region. Jeanette was also Chaplain for the Hartford Chapter of NARFE and a second vice president for the Wethersfield Chapter of the AARP. She traveled throughout the United States as well as France, Spain, Italy, Bermuda and Poland numerous times. She enjoyed golfing, dancing, self- improvement classes at the Wethersfield Senior Center and a very rich social life. Jeanette was very proud of her Polish heritage as well as her devotion to the Holy Catholic Church. Her greatest experience was meeting and shaking hands with Pope John Paul II. Her vibrant personality will be missed by all who knew her.

Jeanette is survived by her sister-in-law, Patricia Soroko of Wallingford, two nephews, Bernard Soroko and his wife Heather of Madison, David Soroko and his wife Emily of Fairfax, VA, and niece, Lynn Soroko Young and her husband Kevin of Killingworth, as well as her great-niece and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother George Soroko and her fiancé Alex Janczyk. Her nephew and his wife wish to express their heartfelt thanks to Mary Kelly, Claire Rathbun and the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living in Rocky Hill.
Friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30 am on Wednesday January 6th, 2016 at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 am in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy, Wethersfield. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, 400 Christian St. Wallingford.
