Obituary for Mary F. Tyler (Flynn)

Mary (Flynn) Tyler, of Brookville, Florida, former longtime resident of New Britain and beloved wife of 61 years to the late Adrian J. Tyler Jr., passed away peacefully, Sunday, February 16, 2015 at her home. Born and raised in Hartford she was the daughter of the late Michael and Nellie (Lombard) Flynn. Mary graduated from Weaver High School Class of 1938B. Adrian and Mary married on February 17, 1946, in St. Augustine Church, Hartford. After an early retirement from Travelers Insurance Co., Mary worked for The Hartford Steam Boiler, retiring as editor of the in-house newsletter. Mary visited Ireland many times, bringing her daughters in June of 1980, where they visited family of both her parents. Mary and Adrian loved to travel and in February of 1998, Mary, Adrian, Susan and granddaughter, Kira Dionizio visited Ireland. Mary co-chaired publishing the cookbook “Hilltop Cuisine: Prescriptions for the Palate”, which included 650 recipes and was a fundraiser for New Britain General Hospital Auxiliary. Mary’s photograph was published when she was named the recording secretary for the 1993-1994 Woman’s Club of New Britain. Mary greatly enjoyed her family and having them around her table for Sunday dinners. She was a wonderful cook and kept a warm and open house. She was known for making the best apple pies. Mary will be remembered by her daughter; Susan T. Holman and her husband H. Lee of Quaker Hill, CT, a granddaughter Kira Clark and her husband Peter of Spring Hill, Florida; a grandson James A. Dionizio and his wife Whitney of Lockhart, Texas; and three great grandchildren Matthew, Jackson and Sadie. She was predeceased by her daughter, Elizabeth Tyler and a sister Kathryn Flynn.
