Lawrence “Larry” R. Manoni, 81, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Barbara Jane (Roser) Manoni, entered eternal rest at his home Tuesday November 3, 2009, with his family by his side. He was born in New Haven, May 8, 1928, son of the late Larry and Rena (Biancavilla) Manoni, and had lived in Wethersfield for the last 59 years. After graduating from Hillhouse, he earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Aeronautical Engineering from MIT in 1949. He worked at United Aircraft (United Technologies) for 38 years. During his career, Larry worked on many new technologies and patents related to rocket guidance systems and life support systems for Astronauts. In 1977, Larry was awarded the prestigious George Mead Medal for his Technical Leadership in development of the inertial guidance units that guided the two Viking Landers to successful landings on the surface of Mars. Soon after retiring from United Technologies, Larry joined the Math department at Central Connecticut State University where he taught Math and Computer Science right up until this year. He was an avid bowler, loved to golf, and travel to tropical islands with his wife “Babs”. Along with his wife Barbara of 59 years, Larry will be fondly remembered by his six children; Lawrence Manoni and his wife Nancy of Southington, Richard Manoni of Florida, Linda Manoni-Hunter of Texas, Carol Walley and her husband Don of Gales Ferry, Kenneth Manoni and his wife Christina of Rhode Island, and Patricia Hoffman and her husband Scott of Wethersfield; eleven grandchildren, Jennifer Perlitz and her husband Gregg, Richard Manoni Jr., Kevin and Eric Manoni, Matthew and Sarah Walley, Rachel, David, and Alexander Manoni, and Kristen and Kimberly Duncan; as well as two great grandchildren, Emma and Lucas Perlitz. Funeral procession will be Saturday November 7, 2009 at 9am from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in the Church of The Incarnation, 544 Prospect St, Wethersfield. Interment will follow in the family plot in Rose Hill Memorial. (Section 31), 580 Elm Street, Rocky Hill.
