Daniel M. Carey, 51, of Hartford, City and Town Clerk and Registrar of Vital Records for the City of Hartford since 1993, entered eternal peace unexpectedly on Friday, September 11, 2009. Dan was born in Hartford, son of the late William H. Carey Jr. and Dorothy (Coll) Carey, and was a Hartford resident for more than 40 years. He was a Graduate of Wethersfield High School and Southern Connecticut State University receiving a Bachelors and Masters Degree. Dan gave his time unselfishly as a member of many organizations; the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, New England Town Clerks Association, the Connecticut Town Clerks Association where he served as Conference Chairman, and was on the Board of Directors for the Greater Hartford Convention and Visitors Bureau, Inc. He was the Chairman of the Hartford/New Ross Sister City Committee and was on the Board of Directors for Sisters Cities International/Hartford. Dan has been a member of the Hartford St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee since 1993, holding the position of Hartford’s Honoree in 1995, and was the Irish Person of the Year in 2009. He was also a member of the Irish-American Home Society and the Irish Northern Aid. Dan loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. His passions included the Boston Red Sox, the New York Giants and he was an avid UCONN Basketball and Football fan, and of course loved playing golf where he will be greatly missed by his league members of the City of Hartford Golf League. Dan will be fondly remembered by his loving family; his stepmother, Susan F. Carey, his brother, William H. Carey III and sister in law, Jacqueline Carey; a sister, Marie Meaney and brother in law, Thomas Meaney, and a sister, Elizabeth Guild; nieces and nephews, David and Christopher Holt, Scott Guild, Megan and Cristin Carey; and so many dear friends whose hearts and lives Dan touched. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 9am from the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Dan’s life at 10am, in The Church of The Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Interment will follow in Village Cemetery, Marsh Street, Wethersfield. Dan’s family will receive relatives and friends in the Funeral Home, Tuesday, September 15, 2009 from 4-8pm.
